Description

The Solar Farm is an agrivoltaic demonstration space dedicated to the integration of photovoltaic systems with agricultural production.

The main objective is to investigate and demonstrate the interactions and synergies between photovoltaic systems, microclimate and agricultural production, contributing to innovative solutions in the context of the energy transition and climate change adaptation.

The space aims to address challenges such as land-use optimisation, improved water efficiency, increased crop resilience and the simultaneous production of renewable energy and food. It includes an elevated photovoltaic system that allows agricultural activity to continue beneath the modules, promoting the exploration of different agrivoltaic configurations.

The infrastructure has been in operation since 2022 and includes a variety of seasonal and perennial crops, as well as monitoring of environmental and production variables.

The demonstrator participates in European R&D and demonstration projects, namely https://www.symbiosyst.eu/ and https://www.perseus-project.eu/.

In addition to its scientific component, the space has a strong outreach dimension, promoting knowledge and the adoption of sustainable solutions among society.
