Engineering Laboratory
This space brings together three laboratories and has as its core purpose the validation of the efficiency, safety and integration of decentralised energy solutions. It addresses critical challenges ranging from fault diagnosis in electronics and safety of electrical panels and electronic controllers (Lab P5), to solar generation intermittency through battery optimisation (Lab P0), and grid stabilisation and load management challenges in electric mobility (Lab P-2).
The space also provides capabilities for the development, testing and diagnostics of discrete electronics, covering the full cycle from circuit design at component level to functional validation and electrical characterisation of hardware. This capability directly supports fault diagnosis in controllers and electrical panels, accelerates the iteration of power and energy hardware prototypes, and enables vertical integration between firmware and supporting electronics in internally developed systems.
It operates as a technological and industrial R&D infrastructure focused on solar energy and storage. The facility benefits the sector by accelerating the development of intelligent algorithms and ensuring compliance of AC/DC chargers, inverters, batteries, heat pumps, etc., fostering partnerships for the energy transition and industrial innovation.
Digital Engineering and Validation for the Energy Industry
Digital engineering and validation environment where companies in the energy sector develop, validate and demonstrate software and critical systems for the energy value chain — generation, transmission and distribution — under real operating conditions.
It covers SCADA/RTU systems, substation automation, industrial protocol integration, OT cybersecurity, operations and trading applications (ETRM), and electric vehicle charging and smart metering systems.
It addresses recurring challenges in the modernisation of the sector, including legacy SCADA and RTU systems, fragmented industrial protocols (IEC 101/104/61850, DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT), stringent availability requirements and limited maintenance windows, increasing OT cybersecurity demands and the complexity of telemetry impacting reporting and compliance.
Coordinated by Wirtek – Pragmasoft (a Wirtek company), a software and engineering company based in Matosinhos, part of the Danish Wirtek Group (listed on Nasdaq First North Copenhagen) with development centres in Portugal, Romania and Denmark. Pragmasoft, with 25 years of activity, is the original member of ATE. It provides project-based engineering services (software development, IoT, and quality assurance) through co-development, fixed-price and consultancy models, with AI-assisted delivery and 100% intellectual property ownership retained by the client.
Reference cases and partnerships include: Efacec (over 15 years), VIVAVIS (IEC 61850 testing and certification), SCADA International (ETRM), and the Port of Aalborg.
Solar Tech – Solar and EV O&M Software Demonstration
Solar Tech is a demonstration environment for an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) management software solution designed for photovoltaic (PV) systems and solar farms, as well as electric vehicle (EV) charging operations. The platform enables the validation and demonstration, under real-world conditions, of the centralized management of sites, tasks and field data through a single SaaS platform.
It addresses common challenges faced by O&M teams, including the management of multiple sites and geographically dispersed clients, reliance on spreadsheets and generic tools, limited real-time visibility of uptime, tickets, technicians, and spare parts, and the need for transparent reporting to support service level agreements (SLAs), investors and regulatory bodies.
The solution is coordinated by Wirtek – Pragmasoft (a Wirtek company), a software engineering company headquartered in Matosinhos, Portugal, and part of the Danish Wirtek Group (listed on Nasdaq First North Copenhagen) with development centres in Portugal, Romania and Denmark. Pragmasoft, with 25 years of experience, is the original ATE member organization.
Solar Tech is a dedicated SaaS solution (focused exclusively on PV and EV O&M operations), ready to deploy and scalable across multiple sites and clients. Reference case: Ecoinside, which achieved an approximately 30% reduction in the time required to organize recurring tasks, together with improved intervention traceability.
